Up until this fight, Hermansson hadn’t quite announced himself as a contender in the middleweight division. However, his performance against Meerschaert turned a lot of heads as he out-grappled the submission specialist for the entirety of round one before finishing with a guillotine choke with under a minute to go. It was the fifth win in seven UFC appearances for Hermansson, who would go on to pick up big wins over Kelvin Gastelum, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, and David Branch.

Hermansson has won five of his last six fights and he looks to stay in the thick of the middleweight title chase when he fights Marvin Vettori in the main event of UFC Vegas 16 this Saturday.
