“Smile Killer” is sorry.
It has been three days since Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight Fares Ziam obliterated Matt Frevola at UFC Paris with an absolutely brutal knee from inside Accor Arena in Paris, France (watch highlights). Frevola ended up with a fractured left orbital.
While it was an epic knockout, it came with a bit of controversy because Ziam hit Frevola twice with heavy shots after he was unconscious, and the UFC fans let him know.
Why the extra punches. Matt was clearly out after the knee

The last two punches were absolutely unnecessary!!

Ziam apologized to Frevola in a recent interview with Kevin Iole.
“I’m sorry to Matt that I did that, but I didn’t feel the knockout,” Ziam said. “So, I didn’t know at the time he was knocked out, so I am sorry about that.”
There’s no doubt the extra shots weren’t needed, but the referee wasn’t there in time to stop him. Before their fight, the fighters are always told to continue until the referee stops the contest, and that’s what “Smile Killer” did.
Ziam, 27, is 4-0 since returning to the promotion, picking up his first UFC finish at UFC Paris.
Live by the sword, die by the sword.
