Arnold Allen vs. Mads Burnell booked for UFC Liverpool

Arnold Allen returns to the Octagon for the first time in over a year when he takes on Danish fighter, Mads Burnell, at UFC Liverpool on May 27 at the Echo Arena.

MMANytt.com first reported that the fight was in the works on Friday. The UFC officially announced the featherweight clash on Thursday through its social media channels.

Allen (12-1) took the biggest win of his young career in London last year when he handed Makwan Amirkhani his first UFC loss, claiming a split decision win after three competitive rounds with “Mr. Finland”.

The 24-year-old Englishman has yet to test defeat after taking three wins from as many trips to the Octagon. Allen scored a late submission win over Alan Omer in his promotional debut after stepping in as a short notice replacement at UFC Berlin in 2015.

Despite being vastly under experienced against a veteran of over 30 fights, Yaotzin Meza, at UFC’s 2016 London trip, the Tristar man managed to edge the American to take a unanimous decision win.

Burnell (9-2) regained parity to his UFC record with a unanimous decision win over Mike Santiago at UFC St. Louis in January. He was initially drafted in by the promotion ahead of UFC Rotterdam as a replacement for Islam Makhachev who was forced from his lightweight clash with Michel Prazeres due to injury.

Despite competing at a heavier weight class, Burnell made it to the final bell, though it was the surging Brazilian who took a unanimous decision win on the night.
