Association of Ringside Physicians asks NSAC to deny glove change request for Mayweather vs McGregor boxing match
Undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. recently asked to compete in smaller gloves for his upcoming Conor McGregor boxing match, which takes place a week from Saturday night (Aug. 26, 2017) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
But in order for “Money” to drop down from 10oz to 8oz, he would need a favorable vote from Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), something the Association of Ringside Physicians (ARP) is hoping to prevent

The Association of Ringside Physicians understands that consideration is being given to amend current regulations, and in so doing, permit the use of 8oz Gloves in the forthcoming boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. This is a bout that has already been set a specific weight class. Unless there is scientific evidence to support the view that such a change might improve the safety of this bout, we would strongly caution against allowing current regulation to be over-ruled. To do so would also set a precent for future bouts.
Gloves used in mixed martial arts (MMA) range between four and six ounces, while boxing mitts can go as low as eight ounces and as high as 20 ounces; however, anything below 147 pounds is restricted to eight ounces in “Sin City.”
“The Money Fight” will be contested at 154 pounds.
NSAC will vote on that rule change, as well as the co-promotion status of UFC, when it meets on Wednesday morning in “The Silver State.” Sadly, the glove sizes won’t change for “The Mini Fight,” simply because they don’t make them any smaller.
