Bellator 196 Results: Benson Henderson submits Roger Huerta in the second round

Benson Henderson is back.

Friday night at Bellator 196 in Budapest Hungary, the former UFC lightweight champion had his best performance in the Bellator cage, dominating former UFC standout Roger Huerta before submitting him in the second round of the main event.

Henderson, who signed with Bellator in 2016 has had a rough go of things since making the jump over to the circular cage, going 1-2 leading up to this fight with his lone win by way of injury in a bout he was likely losing. None of that bad momentum seemed to follow him into the cage on Friday though as “Smooth” lived up to his name, marking up Huerta on the feet before locking up a fight ending guillotine early in the second round.

In the co-main event of the evening, Adam Borics turned in a Knockout of the Year performance against Teodor Nikolov, landing a brutal flying knee in the second round that turned the lights out on the Bulgarian fighter. The win moved Borics to 11-0 and inserted the young prospect into Bellator’s crowded featherweight title picture.

In the opening bout of the evening, standout NCAA wrestler Ed Ruth improved to 5-0 against durable veteran Ion Pascu. Ruth showcased an improved striking acumen in the fight, getting the better part of the stand up over the course of the first two rounds before sealing the deal with his grappling in the third.

Elsewhere on the card, Denise Kielholtz cruised to a unanimous decision over Petra Castkova and Brian Moore tapped out Giorgio Belsanti with a first round guillotine choke.
