Bellator MMA Announces ‘Pitbull Vs Weichel 2’ For July 14 In Rome

Bellator is set to bring mixed martial arts (MMA) and kickboxing to Il Centrale Live Roma - Foro Italico in Rome, Italy, on July 14, 2018. The MMA portion will be headlined by a rematch of a Featherweight title fight first seen at Bellator 138 in St. Louis, Missouri. The defending champion that night was Patricio “Pitbull” Freire and the challenger was the highly underrated German sensation Daniel Weichel. The latter came within seconds of a stoppage in round one before Freire came roaring back for the knockout a half-minute into the second stanza.

Since that time, Freire lost the title to Daniel Straus then won it back in dominating fashion. Weichel, too, rebounded from his loss to put together four straight wins, the most recent coming in a razor-close decision at Bellator 177. Now, two of Bellator’s top Featherweight fighters will mix it up for an epic rematch. Freire will come in 26-4, while the extremely durable Weichel stands at 39-9.

Joining them on the card that night will be local favorite Alessio Sakara (19-12, 2 NC) in a Light Heavyweight bout against Jamie Sloane (8-3) in a match designed for Sakara to bounce back from a humbling first round finish by Middleweight champion Rafael Carvalho.

The cards for both events are still being determined, but here’s an early look at the line-ups:

Bellator Rome Main Card:

Featherweight: Patricio Freire (26-4) vs. Daniel Weichel (39-9)
Light Heavyweight Feature Bout: Alessio Sakara (19-12, 2 NC) vs. Jamie Sloane (8-3)

Bellator Kickboxing 10 Card:

Lightweight: Giorgio Petrosyan (85-2-2) vs. Chingiz Allazov (53-2)
Featherweight : Kevin Ross (45-13) vs. Gabriel Varga (21-6)
