CANCELED!

In case you thought blockbuster main events only fell apart in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the boxing world suffered a major shake up on Tuesday when Saul Alvarez withdrew from his Gennady Golovkin rematch, scheduled for Sat., May 5, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Canelo” failed a pair of pre-fight drug tests for clenbuterol and will have to face Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) on April 18. That disciplinary hearing could result in a one-year suspension if commissioners rule against the murderous puncher.

“I have always been a clean fighter and I always will be a clean fighter,” Alvarez said during today’s press conference. “I want to prove without a doubt that I have never intentionally ingested Clenbuterol. I have nothing to hide and I want to be open and transparent through this process.”

Golovkin remains unconvinced.

With the rematch of their controversial showdown back in late 2017 currently on ice, “GGG” will look to remain on the card against an opponent to be named. The leading candidates are Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan and former 154-pound champion Demetrius Andrade, according to L.A. Times.

Ticket refunds for Canelo-GGG 2 are available at MGM Grand.
