Despite classy UFC 214 speech, Jon Jones insists he’s ‘still a wild motherf*cker’ at the end of the day

Undisputed Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was able to recapture his 205-pound title last Saturday night (July 29, 2017) by stopping Daniel Cormier in the UFC 214 pay-per-view (PPV) main event.

In the process, he was also able to capture some new fans.

No because he went to check on his downed opponent — despite this previous (and oft-criticized) advice — but rather because Jones paid tribute to his fallen foe (read it), a much different take (see it) than the first time they fought in early 2015.

But don’t worry, “Bones” is still “wild motherfucker” at the end of the day, according to comments he made at the UFC 214 post-fight press conference (watch it here).

“I think I will make a conscious effort to do better. I’m also more aware of who I am and the responsibility of comes with being a UFC champion. I don’t want to sit up here and make promises and say that I’m going to be a saint, because I’m a wild motherfucker at the end of the day. But, I can try to do things better. I can make a conscious effort to try and I can make better decisions. And I think that’s enough. I think me expecting more out of myself will ultimately lead me to just being a better champion.”

Jones has struggled with his public image over the past several years, which led to his suspension and loss of championship, thanks to a series of missteps that include but are not limited to failed drug tests and car crashes.

He finally looks to have turned it around, thanks in part to his new attitude, and could be back inside the Octagon by the end of the year for a massive super fight (literally) against former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.

That’s wild.
