Highlights! ‘Kid Dynamite’ Submits SBG’s Phillips Early At UFC London

The Octagon debut of Straight Blast Gym standout John Phillips did not go as planned earlier today (Sat., Mar. 17, 2018) at UFC Fight Night 127 live on Fight Pass from inside The O2 Arena in London, England, when “The Welsh Wrecking Machine” was submitted by “Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series” alum Charles Byrd.

Considering Phillips’ knockout ability on the feet, Byrd quickly stepped in for a takedown in the first round. Phillips did well to defend for a while, but “Kid Dynamite” was able to work his way to the back of the 32-year-old Welshman and eventually sink in the rear-naked choke finish.

With this performance, Byrd makes good on his 185-pound debut with a dominant performance against a dangerous puncher like Phillips. At 34 years of age, Byrd has some work to do in the near future, but he’s beginning to stand out after finishing all four of his last fights.
