Highlights! Ferguson Busts Up Cerrone’s Eye, Wins By Doctor’s Stoppage

The “People’s Main Event” between Tony Ferguson and Donald Cerrone last night (Sat., June 8, 2019) at UFC 238 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside United Center in Chicago, Ill., was good while it lasted, but ended on a sour note as Cerrone was unable to continue after the second round due to a blown up eye.

Both Ferguson and Cerrone went to war for 10 hard minutes and the fight certainly lived up to the hype. Cerrone was able to land some really good offense in the early going with deadly straight punches, but Ferguson’s movement proved the difference as “El Cucuy” was able to pounce in and out with a variety of strikes.

Ferguson’s volume and persistence started to take its toll on Cerrone in the second round as “Cowboy” struggled to keep up his pace. Cerrone did try to bite down on his mouthpiece and wing heavy bombs in the direction of Ferguson, but Tony was too elusive and quick and really started to tag “Cowboy.”

As the second round came to an end Ferguson started to launch a combination. The bell sounded and Ferguson landed a late hard right hand that snapped Cerrone’s head back. The referee stepped in and issued a hard warning. Moments later, Cerrone blew his nose and his eye instantly swelled shut. The officials stepped in and the doctor deemed “Cowboy” unable to continue. Ferguson was ruled the winner by way of second-round TKO (doctor’s stoppage).
