Holly Holm vs. Megan Anderson slated for UFC 225

The downtrodden UFC featherweight division will get a major jolt later this spring.

Former bantamweight champion Holly Holm will take on Megan Anderson at UFC 225 on June 9 in Chicago, MMA Fighting confirmed Wednesday after the news was first reported by the Chicago Tribune. The bout will be contested at 145 pounds and very well could be a title eliminator with the winner facing champion Cris Cyborg.

Holm (11-4) fell against Cyborg at UFC 219 in December by unanimous decision. Despite the defeat, it was Cyborg’s toughest fight in years. Holm, 36, owns one of the most memorable knockouts in UFC history, starching Ronda Rousey in 2015. The JacksonWink product remains one of the biggest stars on the women’s side in the UFC.

Anderson (8-2) has not fought since January 2017, a knockout win over Charmaine Tweet to win the Invicta FC women’s featherweight title. The Australia native was supposed to fight Cyborg last summer, but ran into personal issues that temporarily derailed her UFC debut. Anderson, 28, is one of the top female prospects in MMA, a legitimate 145-pounder at 6-feet tall with proven knockout power.

UFC 225 will be headlined by a middleweight title fight between champion Robert Whittaker and challenger Yoel Romero. In the co-main event, Rafael dos Anjos and Colby Covington will face off for the interim welterweight title.
