Jose Aldo open to Cub Swanson rematch: ‘A new contender will emerge’

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has a new-look featherweight division, now that Conor McGregor moved up to throw hands at 155 pounds and Jose Aldo got finished by Max Holloway.

But we haven’t seen the last of “Junior.”

Aldo (26-3) is open to rematching perennial contender Cub Swanson (25-7), who punched his way back into the division title hunt with four straight wins, including last April’s drubbing of Artem Lobov.

"Yes, Cub is an option,” Aldo told MMA Fighting. "Cub is well ranked, especially to be a challenge for me. Frankie (Edgar) will probably fight Max (Holloway), so we can fight and a new contender will emerge. I want to come back to fighting, come back to winning, and then we can sit down and talk to see where I am."

Aldo, 30, has dropped two of his last three.

No question Swanson, 33, would be interested in avenging his loss to the Brazilian, an eight-second technical knockout loss that came by way of flying knee under the WEC banner way back in 2009.

But would the winner be high enough on the charts to warrant a Holloway rematch?
