Matches To Make After UFC Paris

UFC Paris went down yesterday (Sat., Sept. 28, 2024) inside Accor Arena in Paris, France, which saw Renato Moicano beatdown Benoit Saint Denis to the point of forcing a doctor’s stoppage after two rounds (see it again here). In the co-main event, Nassourdine Imavov halted Brendan Allen’s momentum with a not-so-impressive performance (relive it here).

Winner: Renato Moicano
Who He Should Face Next: Paddy Pimblett
Why not? The two men have been eying each other for some time now, and after Moicano beatdown Saint Denis he called for the fight once more, which prompted “The Baddy” to oblige. Pimblett has already gone on record to say the he’d like to fight once more in 2024, and UFC 310 on Saturday Dec. 7, 2024 seems like a good landing spot for the pivotal 155-pound showdown. I just don’t know if it’s a big enough fight to warrant a TUF gig.

Winner: Nassourdine Imavov
Who He Should Face Next: Caio Borralho
Sean Strickland will likely get his rematch against Dricus du Plessis, assuming Robert Whittaker or Khamzat Chimaev don’t cut the line. That’s why the rematch Imavov (No. 4) desires against “Tarzan” likely won’t happen anytime soon. A fight against Borralho (No. 5), meanwhile, is very likely. Borralho is coming off a big win over Jared Cannonier, pushing his win streak to 14 straight, seven inside the Octagon. The winner here will very much be in the championship fight conversation.

Winner: William Gomis
Who He Should Face Next: Morgan Charriere
All Gomis does is win. After defeating Joanderson Brito yesterday in France, he extended his win streak to 12, which includes four straight to kick off his UFC career. A fight against Charriere sounds very intriguing because not only did he also win last night in main card action via spectacular knockout over Gabriel Miranda (see it again here), the two men have history. Indeed, Charriere defeated Gomis eight years ago on the regional circuit via submission. That was the last time Gomis tasted defeat, so I am sure he wouldn’t mind trying to get that one back on the biggest stage of them all.

Winner: Bryan Battle
Who He Should Face Next: Gabriel Bonfim
Battles is really coming along nicely in his UFC career, securing his third win in last four fights, sandwiched in between a no contest (NC) against Ange Loosa. I would have liked to see that rematch, but since Loosa lost to Gabriel Bonfim in his last outing, it doesn’t make much sense now. On that note, why not pit him against Bonfim? He has also won three of his last four fights, so this bout makes sense for both men.

Winner: Fares Ziam
Who He Should Face Next: King Green
Ziam entered the “Knockout of the Year” conversation with his ridiculous standing knee to the head finish over Matt Fevola (see it again here). That was his fourth straight win inside the Octagon, moving him to 6-1 in his last seven fights. I really like a fight against Green, next. King is coming off a tough loss at the hands of Paddy Pimblett at UFC 304, but is still a decent 3-2 in his last five fights under the UFC banner. Green would be a good test for the up-and-coming contender, and will show us where he is at against a longtime veteran of the fight game.
