Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Gordon Ryan and Mikey Musumeci are two of the biggest names in jiu-jitsu, but unsurprisingly, the two don’t get along. Ryan, widely regarded as the best no-gi grappler of all time, beefs with just about everyone, so that’s far from unusual. In fact, he’s got problems with the entire B-Team!

Musumeci is much more mild-mannered generally. Given the two are separated by about a 100 pounds and have never competed opposite one another, it doesn’t feel like the usual recipe for bad blood. However, Musumeci, a five-time IBJJF black belt world champion and world-class grappler in his own right, has taken issue with Ryan and made a statements in the past about his flagrant steroid usage.

Ryan isn’t impressed with the trash talking coming his direction.

“Mikey just attacked me,” Ryan explained on Jake Shield’s podcast. “The only thing I’ve ever done is talk highly of Mikey. The thing about Mikey is Mikey will be like, ‘If you do steroids ...’ Mikey has been taking passive-aggressive shots at me forever. The thing about Mikey is he’ll make one post that’s like, ‘Hey, if you take steroids, you’re mentally weak. You’re too weak and you need a crutch.’ He’ll talk about like if you use steroids then you’re mentally weak, and his very next post will be like ‘I’m depressed and I’m sad and we really need to talk about mental.’ Bro, f—king do your thing and leave everybody else alone!”

Musumeci likely has larger things to worry about at the moment than beef with “King” Gordon. Last month, Musumeci was stripped of his One Championship Flyweight grappling belt after failing to make weight because of an insane 35-pound weight class swap at the very last second. In the attempt to make weight, he was hospitalized with a severe condition.

Ryan, meanwhile, was most recently victorious in his Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) super fight matches back in August. Unfortunately, his continued health issues mean that his future match schedule is uncertain to say the least.

Insomnia

Tito Ortiz not understanding how to spell Florida — where he lives — is my new favorite conspiracy theory. It’s either that or his autocorrect is of whack.

On second thought, maybe I take back what I said about Johnny Walker’s Heavyweight move being a good idea.

Dana does have a certain way to rewrite history …

Jeremy Stephens is a lunatic, but a bare knuckle brawl with Mike Perry? Sign me up.

It’s always cool when somebody bounces off the ring/cage to deliver hard punches.

Random Land

Anecdote of the week: Armed with only a blender and spatula, I once fought a scorpion that found its way into our hotel room in Costa Rica. The notable part is that I happened upon the beast while fully nude.
