Morning Report: Max Holloway pokes fun at Conor McGregor’s Burger King deal, says he’s ‘looking forward to the two strips meal’
Conor McGregor may be the “King of chicken,” but the lightweight champ also is involved in some beef.
On Saturday night, Max Holloway was supposed to defend his UFC featherweight title against Frankie Edgar in the main event of UFC 222. But Holloway got hurt and was forced off, leaving Edgar to accept a short-notice fight against Brian Ortega instead. Ortega ended up knocking Edgar out in the first round and afterwards, the 145-pound champion took to social media to give props to Edgar for the risk he took.
You had nothing to gain from taking that fight @FrankieEdgar. But you took it you defended what you already earned. There’s no belt for sacrificing everything but true fans and Jersey knows no belt can outshine what you bring to the sport. Chin up bratha

Never one to let sleeping dogs lie, McGregor, who vacated the featherweight title without ever defending it, jumped in to throw shade at Holloway for pulling out of the fight and Holloway clapped back, throwing McGregor’s recent history of not fighting in his face.
Kid, you bounced. Leave it.

Oh we talking bout bouncing now?Don’t like my tweet? Your coach did. Go ask him why. Maybe you'll find what you lost. https://t.co/ekoxh7bUaw

Holloway and McGregor have been going back and forth over social media since Holloway won the featherweight title that McGregor vacated. “Notorious” has been quick to note that he previously defeated Holloway when the two fought in 2013, while “Blessed” has highlighted the fact that he was only 21 years old when that happened and that McGregor has remained absent from MMA since winning the lightweight title in November of 2016.
But though McGregor hasn’t fought in MMA in well over a year, and seems likely not to fight until this fall at best, that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been busy. Just Monday, McGregor unveiled his new sponsorship with Burger King with a pair of Tweets and a new commercial.

Of course, having just had McGregor take a shot at him, these ads afforded Holloway yet another opportunity to talk trash to McGregor, calling the lightweight champ the “King of chicken” and mocking him for the upcoming stripping of his second UFC title.
You went from King of Ireland to King of "chicken"? Looking forward to the two strips meal coming April 7.
PS Shout out to the real fighting Irish. The ones who value whats in heart before whats on waist. Hawaii respects you and welcomes you with open arms https://t.co/kqyiAw3PDY— Max Holloway (@BlessedMMA) March 5, 2018
All of this beef really boils down to the fact that Holloway is sick of McGregor talking trash on social media but refusing to fight anymore. Recently, “Blessed” compared McGregor’s actions to those of a man “living in the past” because his future is bleak.
“He’s been throwing the little jabs here and there,” Holloway told FloCombat recently. “It’s like I said, retired fighters like talking about the past. They’re like your uncle when you’re at the barbecue and your uncle’s like ‘Come here, boy, remember back in my day I could throw this pigskin over the mountain.’ That’s what they do. They talk about the past. They ain’t got nothing to look forward [to], so they talk about their past. That’s what the man’s doing.
”They can talk about the past all they want. They know who the toughest fight is. They know who the best is. The best is ‘Blessed,’ and when he’s ready to put his big boy pants back on, come to a ‘real fight’ in his phrase, then we’ll be here. There’s a lot of matchups for him and it looks like a lot of people want to see Holloway vs. [McGregor] II. I’m right here.”
McGregor has previously shown an interest in rematching Holloway though any such fight seems a long way off. Should it happen, Holloway would be in for the biggest payday of his professional career. If it doesn’t though, “Blessed” has other ideas about making money.
Yo @Wendys if you need a fighter whos about the REAL BEEF in your burgers you know who to call https://t.co/J0OQN0lb0n

Making fun of “nerds” and using the term “booger sugar” seems incongruous.
Come on virgins, don't jump to conclusions on @Canelo! Let's make sure that nerd didn't sniff a little of @JonnyBones tainted booger sugar off some señoritas asshole by mistake.
