New Rankings! Blaydes Razors His Way Into Top 5

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was back on pay-per-view (PPV) over the weekend with the UFC 221 mixed martial arts (MMA) event, taking place last Saturday night (Feb. 10, 2018) inside Perth Arena in Perth, Australia, featuring "Prelims" on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Get complete results and play-by-play here.

UFC 221 featured the middleweight title fight pitting former division champion Luke Rockhold opposite power-punching top contender Yoel Romero, which "Soldier of God" won by devastating knockout (see it again here). In the UFC 221 co-headliner, hometown hero Mark Hunt went down on points after getting roughed up by heavyweight bruiser Curtis Blaydes (highlights here).

As a result, Romero maintains his place atop the 185-pound leaderboard, while Rockhold slips behind former nemesis Ronaldo Souza to No. 3. As for Blaydes, "Razor" enters the top five at the expense of the fading "Super Samoan," who drops down to No. 6.

Here's how the rankings work, courtesy of UFC.com:

Rankings were generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.

Take a look at what the latest rankings field looks like courtesy of UFC.com. Note: (+/- = movement in rankings, *NR = Not previously ranked).

Sorry, still no division for featherweight champion Cris Cyborg.

You can expect these standings to change -- particularly in the welterweight division -- around this time next week, as the promotion is set to uncork the UFC Fight Night 126: "Cowboy vs. Medeiros" fight card this Sun. night (Feb. 18, 2018) inside Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas (more on that fight card here).
