Paige VanZant injured, pulled from UFC 216 fight against Jessica Eye
This book may need another chapter.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has been forced to make some last-minute changes to its upcoming UFC 216 pay-per-view (PPV) event, booked for Sat., Oct. 7, 2017 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
I blame the worm.
It appears main card attraction, Paige VanZant, recently injured her intervertebral disc while training jiu-jitsu, according to MMA Fighting. While “12 Gauge” will not require surgery, the former strawweight has been advised to avoid any and all training until she’s fully recovered.
As a result, her Jessica Eye fight has been canceled.
VanZant (7-3) jumped out to three straight wins after making her Octagon debut in late 2014; however, she’s since gone 2-2 and got tapped twice in submission losses to Rose Namajunas and Michelle Waterson, prompting her change in weight classes.
Which will now have to wait.
