RDA Vs. Covington Interim Title Fight Slated For UFC 225

Despite previous reports that former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos will lock horns with welterweight spark plug Colby Covington for the interim 170-pound title at UFC 224 in Brazil, the promotion announced earlier today (Fri., April 6, 2018) during UFC’s 25th anniversary press conference in Brooklyn, New York, that the two contenders will meet at UFC 225 on June 9 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Covington, 30, is coming off a huge win over submission legend Demian Maia this past October at UFC Fight Night 119 in Brazil. The brash welterweight is currently riding a five-fight win streak and will now have his chance to hoist interim gold this June.

Dos Anjos, 33, has produced a 3-0 record at 170 pounds since moving up from lightweight last year. The former UFC champion has looked absolutely dominant at the welterweight level and is coming off a unanimous decision win over former 170-pound titleholder Robbie Lawler at UFC on FOX 26 this past December.

UFC 225 will be headlined by a middleweight title rematch between current champion Robert Whittaker and Cuban powerhouse Yoel Romero. Additionally, former WWE champion CM Punk will make his Octagon return against Mike Jackson.
