St-Pierre: Conor McGregor Fight Does Nothing For My Legacy

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre, who also held gold at 170 pounds, has once again walked away from mixed martial arts (MMA) after surrendering his strap.

What will it take to bring him back?

A fight that does something for his legacy, since he already has a boatload of money. That’s why the “rich prick” is turning his nose up at the idea of a Conor McGregor showdown, because “Notorious” is nothing more than a money fight.

“The thing is, Conor McGregor, money-wise, I believe is the one that can put the most money on the table. However, I think legacy-wise, I don’t think he’s the guy that legacy-wise (helps me much). I mean, money-wise, for people who are not huge fans of MMA, they know who Conor McGregor is. He’s the main guy. He’s the guy who brought the sport to a different level. He’s, I would say, the most charismatic guy. He sells, the biggest seller in the sport. But talk about legacy. If I come back for legacy, that’s what interests me the most, more than the money. Money, yes, it’s good, but if I come back, it would be more for a legacy match.”

If beating the most popular MMA fighter in history doesn't add to your legacy ... then what does?

St-Pierre jumped up to 185 pounds to challenge Michael Bisping for the division title last fall. After choking out “The Count,” the French-Canadian phenom was submitted by colitis and forced to walk away.

It should also be noted that “Rush” is also uninterested in fights with UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, either of the Diaz brothers, or former Bellator and ONE champion Ben Askren.
