Submission! Watch Brian Ortega tap Renato Moicano late at UFC 214

Two undefeated featherweight contenders battled it out earlier tonight (Sat., July 29, 2017) at UFC 214 live from inside Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., as submission specialist Brian Ortega went toe-to-toe with Brazilian striker Renato Moicano. While Ortega landed heavy shots on the feet throughout three rounds, it was his finishing ability on the ground that once again proved victorious. Moicano was doing a damn good job at flexing his offense through the first two frames, but landed an ill-advised takedown in the third that resulted in his demise. The second the action hit the canvas, Ortega locked up a perfect guillotine choke that forced an immediate tap from the Brazilian.

With this win, Ortega keeps his perfect record in tact and moves even closer to the upper echelon of contenders at 145 pounds. While Ortega will encounter stiffer competition his next time out, his evolving striking and obviously dangerous submission game should keep him afloat. If he can win another fight this year, Ortega could be on the short list of deserving featherweight title contenders entering 2018.
