Tom Duquesnoy Back on Track, Decisions Terrion Ware

Top bantamweight prospect Tom “Firekid” Duquesnoy faced top bantamweight prospect opponent Terrion Ware today (Sat., March 17, 2018) at the O2 Arena in London, England, live on UFC Fight Pass. Duqesnoy was looking to bounce back from a tough loss to fellow prospect, ranked bantamweight Cody Stamman. Ware has made a UFC career as a tough test for prospects, previously facing off with Cody Stamman and Sean O’Malley.

Tommy Dukes opened up with combinations in the first, while Ware stayed composed. As the round wore on he looked to apply some pressure to Duquesnoy. Duquesnoy landed a combination into a low kick, then repeated the feat several more times throughout the round. Ware countered a hook with a one-two, then went to the body. Ware ducked, grabbed a very low single, and held it. Duquesnoy attempted to cartwheel away and Ware ended up in top position landing punches to finish the round.

Ware was applying his steady pressure in the second, cutting off the cage as Duquesnoy’s footwork slowed a bit. Duquesnoy used the clinch to circle off the cage and land punches on the break. Duquesnoy landed a right hand, then another Dutch-style combination into a low kick. Ware ate a right hand, landed a nice combination of hooks inside. They traded body hooks. Duquesnoy kept up his leg kicks, really trying to chop Ware down. Ware landed a combination, hook and uppercut, then ate a left hook. Duquesnoy ate a low blow and took a break, perhaps just what he needed. On the restart, Ware was pushing the pace immediately, with Duquesnoy looking to counter Ware. Suddenly Ware manged to find a takedown off a failed Duquesnoy throw. He landed heavy elbows and punches from the top until the round ended.

Duquesnoy started out the third with three low kicks in a row, seemingly looking to slow Ware down. Ware stayed in his face, landing his jab and looking for his right hand and left hook behind it. He shot in, got a momentary takedown, ended in a clinch against the cage. He broke away as Duquesnoy threw a knee. Another couple hard leg kicks from the Firekid. Ware landed a hard body shot, ate the hook counter. Duquesnoy landed a hard left straight. Ware shot, was stuffed. Ware jabbed, slipped the counters. Ware grabbed the low single, dragged Duquesnoy down for a moment, back up again. He slipped and landed a right hand; Duquesnoy came back with another leg kick and the fight was over.

Neither fighter seemed particularly confident before the scorecards were read, but Duquesnoy had won on all three scorecards. He explains how the gameplan was to avoid the war, take angles, etc. He said he would be taking a vacation next before getting back to it.

Official result: Tom Duquesnoy def. Terrion Ware via unanimous decision 29-28x2, 30-27
