Tyron Woodley doesn’t want to talk about Georges St-Pierre or Conor McGregor so please shut up

Reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is set to defend his 170-pound title against top contender and jiu-jitsu wizard Demian Maia at the upcoming UFC 214 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which takes place inside Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Prior to his co-main event against the aging Brazilian, “The Chosen One” flirted with bouts against Nick Diaz, Georges St-Pierre, and Conor McGregor, just to name a few, though none of them came to fruition for varying reasons.

So there is no reason to talk about them when he’s signed to fight someone else, according to comments Woodley made at the UFC 214 open workouts (via MMA Junkie):

“In defeat, there’s no Georges St-Pierre, there’s no Nick Diaz, there’s no other fight after that. So, for all you guys, I really don’t want to talk about Georges. Georges knows where the (expletive) I’m at. So let me focus on Demian Maia. Let’s give him the respect that he deserves. He’s a world-class fighter. Though the fans don’t appreciate jiu-jitsu, even though it’s built the UFC, I respect jiu-jitsu. I respect what he brings to the table. I don’t want to talk about Conor (McGregor), Floyd (Mayweather) or (expletive) Georges St-Pierre. I’m just being real.”

Promotion president Dana White told the combat sports press that St-Pierre — who was previously attached to a middleweight title fight against Michael Bisping — will instead face the winner of Woodley-Maia later this year.

As for McGregor and Diaz, the former jumped ship to try his hand at boxing while the latter is on a permanent vacation. Simply put, Woodley needs a win to retain his title in order to keep calling the shots.
