Mike Tyson will make one more walk to the ring for his boxing match against Jake Paul on Nov. 15, 2024. Well, he plans to try, anyway.
The combat sports gods already tried to put a halt to the match once when Tyson was forced to withdraw with an ulcer for the original date in July 2024. Unfortunately, the pairing was rescheduled while Paul went on to box and defeat bare-knuckle boxing (BKB) star, Mike Perry, via a sixth round technical knockout (watch highlights).
Tyson, 58, has claimed to be all good to go ahead of the match after it initially fell apart. At the same time, he’s admitted that training three to four times a day has made it a struggle to move. For recovery, the legend has utilized the aid of electrostimulation and stem cells.
“It’s hard to walk right now,’’ Tyson told USA Today. “But two months from now I’m going to be perfect.
“The fight is won in the gym,’’ he concluded. “Listen, I’ll do anything that will help me.”
Paul, 27, can extend his winning streak to five (10-1) with a win over one of the most iconic figures in sports history. Under a normal situation with a closer age gap, Paul would likely get applauded for taking up the challenge but that has been too much to overcome for most of the community. Amongst Paul’s 11 opponents thus far, only three have been considered “real” boxers with the best of the bunch being Tommy Fury, who he lost to via a split decision in February 2023 (watch highlights).
The match will be Tyson’s first as a professional since his sixth round loss to Kevin McBride in 2005. He did, however, battle his fellow legend, Roy Jones Jr., in November 2020.
