UFC 214: Ice cream-eating Jon Jones will fight overweight Daniel Cormier, not Jimi Manuwa on short notice

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is a murderer, according to promotion president Dana White, and has no problem killing a pay-per-view (PPV) main event if his opponent fails to show up on fight night.

Just ask Dan Henderson.

But unlike the UFC 151 fiasco, which forced UFC to scrap an entire fight card, the promotion has two ready, willing, and able light heavyweights to step in to fight “Bones” if Daniel Cormier flakes and jeopardizes this weekend’s title fight.

They might want to check with Jones on that.

“I do not take last-minute fights no matter who says what,” Jones told reporters at yesterday’s UFC 214 open workouts. “I’ll fight him even if he’s five pounds, ten pounds over. I feel like I can beat Daniel Cormier whether he’s overweight or not.

These abs would suggest otherwise.

Cormier struggled to make the 205-pound limit for his UFC 210 title defense earlier this year, but was able to dupe the New York State Athletic Commission with the tried-and-true towel trick, something that didn't sit well with Jones.

And if White and Co. come calling for a favor if and when “DC” implodes, they’re likely to find themselves unfriended on social media by the ice-cream eating Jones, who is clearly on weight for UFC 214.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed when everyone weighs in today (get those results here) so that Saturday night’s (July 29, 2017) action inside Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., goes off without a hitch.
