UFC 214 results: Volkan Oezdemir wrecks Jimi Manuwa in 42 seconds, calls for title shot next

Top 5-ranked Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight contenders Jimi Manuwa (No. 3) and Volkan Oezdemir (No. 5) kicked off UFC 214’s pay-per-view (PPV) portion tonight (Sat., July 29, 2017) inside Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The winner, particularly in the case of Manuwa, would possibly earn a 205-pound title shot in the near future; therefore, the mixed martial arts (MMA) stakes were higher than normal.

Oezdemir, though, was the one who rose to the occasion, starching Manuwa in just 42 seconds to score another ridiculous first round finish. It was a ridiculous, violent finish.

Oezdemir got the action started early with a low kick, a hard combination and then a knee to Manuwa’s as he looked for a tie up. He got it and pressed Oezdemir’s back up against the cage where he was seemingly looking to dirty box. However, Manuwa did absolutely nothing with the position and Oezdemir — along with the crowd — began to grow restless. He started to box his way off the cage, landing short hard shots that buckled Manuwa’s knees. Sensing he was in trouble, Manuwa began to retreat in a straight line backward as Oezdemir chased him across the Octagon. He landed a huge left cross and then as Manuwa was off balance, he pushed him to the mat violently and begin to reign down hammerfists. He landed two and Manuwa was in outerspace immediately, forcing the referee to jump in and save him from additional punishment. Manuwa was so rattled that he continued to grapple with the referee well after he jumped in to stop it.

It was another unbelievable, explosive finish for Oezdemir, who needed just 22 seconds to annihilate the No. 3-ranked UFC Light Heavyweight. It was six seconds better than his most recent sensational first round finish of Misha Cirkunov. Oezdemir could not explain his recent power, telling Joe Rogan that he must have dynamite in his fists. That’s now three straight impressive wins for Oezdemir, who called for a title shot in his next outing.

At this rate, why the hell not — he’s straight up slaying dudes right now.
