UFC Fight Night 115: Stefan Struve, 'Fighter To Watch' today in Rotterdam

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran Stefan Struve will make his 19th walk to the Octagon later today (Sat., Sept. 2, 2017) at UFC Fight Night 115 live on UFC Fight Pass from inside the Ahoy Rotterdam arena in Rotterdam, Netherlands. That is an incredible number considering Struve competes in the vastly unpredictable UFC heavyweight division.

At just 29 years of age, Struve is entering his prime as a heavyweight. Sure, he comes with a lot of mileage, but the towering Dutchman is making his return to contention at the most opportune time. UFC veterans like Junior dos Santos, Cain Velasquez, Roy Nelson, and Andrei Arlovski have all fallen off in one way or another, opening the door for “Skyscraper” to push his way towards the top 5 by the end of 2017.

Luckily for Struve, he’ll have the opportunity to cash in on a main event billing later today when he meets former Bellator MMA heavyweight champion Alexander Volkov at UFC Fight Night 115. It will be Struve’s first appearance since choking out Daniel Omielańczuk back at UFC 204 nearly one year ago. The heavyweight veteran will be entering the Octagon on home soil, though, where he captured a 16-second knockout finish over Antonio Silva back in 2016.

If Struve is able to knock off Volkov, who has quickly emerged as a budding contender since entering the promotion last year, he’ll lock down his third-straight victory and put himself in line for a huge matchup next time out. As long as “Skyscraper” is able to protect his chin inside of the cage he’ll remain one of the toughest outs in the division.

MMAmania.com will deliver LIVE round-by-round, blow-by-blow coverage of the entire UFC Fight Night 115 fight card, starting with the Fight Pass "Prelims" matches online, which are scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. ET, followed by the main card start time of 3 p.m. ET, also on Fight Pass.
