Video: ‘Strong’ Matt Hughes already back on the mats grappling

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion Matt Hughes continues his recovery from a near-fatal truck accident earlier this year, and is already back on the mats proving he’s still a force to be reckoned with.

While Hughes is clearly smaller than he once was, thanks to spending several weeks in a hospital bed with nothing to do but watch Love Boat reruns and eat shitty cafeteria slop, he’s “still pretty strong.”

“So awesome to see that smile and hear that laugh again,” friend Tony Zucca wrote on Instagram. “If I posted a video from day one and compared it to today...and you still didn't believe in miracles...well, there's nothing that's ever going to change your mind.”

Hughes was airlifted to HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois, back in June after the truck he was driving collided with a train. His future was unknown at the time and doctors recommended the “minimally responsive” Hughes be paired with a brain specialist.

Fast forward to August and he’s already working on that comeback.
