‘I’ve Been Training Extensively On Different 12-6 Elbow Attacks’

“Bones” is looking forward to using 12-6 elbows.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight champion Jon Jones makes his highly anticipated return at UFC 309 next weekend (Sat., Nov. 16, 2024) against former champion Stipe Miocic from inside Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Since “Bones” has been away, 12-6 elbows have been legalized. Of course, Jones’ only professional loss in his legendary career was a disqualification against Matt Hamill in 2009 at The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale for using the then-illegal elbow.
Now that Jones is free to use 12-6 elbows, he plans on caving in Miocic’s head with them.
“It just makes me wish that disqualification was overturned - that’s the biggest feeling I had when I learned that rule is no more,” Jones told Kevin Iole. “On the other hand, I accept the move more than ever now, and I’ve been training extensively on different 12-6 elbow attacks. It’s funny because it’s been such a no-no move, so you train yourself not to go there. Now that I’m able to use that strike- it’s a very devastating strike because it opens up so many more options, both on the feet and on top. I’m excited to be one of the first UFC athletes to legally display it at Madison Square Garden.”

For what it’s worth, California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) executive director Andy Foster is all for overturning Jones’ lone loss - even though it will most likely never happen.
The good thing is Jones only has to wait nine more days until he can unleash the now legal 12-6 elbows.
