‘50 Is A Hard Stop’

The end is (kind of) near for “A10.”
Lightweight Jim Miller scored his 27th win inside the Octagon at UFC 309 last weekend (Sat., Nov. 16, 2024) when he submitted and subsequently retired Damon Jackson via a guillotine choke from inside Madison Square Garden in New York City (watch highlights).
It’s incredible that Miller is continuing to find success in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) at 41 years old; however, before and after every fight, the question is how much longer the all-leader in UFC fights (45) will keep fighting.
Well, “A10” answered that question after his submission win.
“50 [UFC fights] is the hard stop,” Miller told reporters during his post-fight fight interview. “You guys can hold me to that sh-t. Yeah, 100 percent. Unless they’re like, ‘A couple million dollars.’ Then, it’s 51. I’m ready to move on to other stuff. There are definitely parts of me that are ready to make a commitment to something else. It’s going to be difficult. It’s got to be f—king hard to not get to do this.”
“I’ve never had a real job,” Miller continued. “I framed houses with my father. When I was in college, I worked at Buffalo Wild Wings for a little bit. I was a pretty crappy fry cook for a couple of months there. But yeah, I’m a fighter. That’s what I do. I know everybody’s road is different, and I’m trying to create my own and be in a good spot to move on to something else. I want to have some energy left to do other stuff. 50 is a hard stop. The goal of mine is to get to 30 UFC wins, so in those five fights, get three more wins and really put that [record] away. And just have some fun fights and fight on some big cards and fight some guys that I’ve been fans of forever.”
As Miller said, he only needs three more wins to reach 30 wins, which has never been done before and will be a very hard record to break. The only active fighters who are somewhat within reach are Charles Oliveira (23) and Dustin Poirier, Jon Jones, Max Holloway, Neil Magny, and Rafael Dos Anjos (22).
Miller is 6-2 in his last eight fights with six finishes.
