Boxer Dies Following Win In Doncaster

Streaking British light heavyweight boxer, Scott Westgarth, captured a 10-round decision win over Dec Spelman last Sat. night (Feb. 24, 2018) inside Doncaster Dome in Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

But following the bout, which saw both men suffer a knockdown, Westgarth began showing visible signs of physical discomfort during the post-fight interview. Upon retiring to his dressing room, the 31-year-old pugilist collapsed and was quickly rushed to Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

He did not survive the weekend.

“To promote a boxing show and a young man doing a job he loves losing his life, I have no words,” promoter Stefy Bull wrote on Twitter. “It’s been the hardest few days I’ve had to endure, no idea what to do moving forward.”

Westgarth’s career record stands at 7-2-1 with two knockouts.

A GoFundMe has been created to help with the fallen fighter’s final expenses and several members of the international boxing community have offered their condolences online, including Frank Bruno and Ricky Hatton, just to name a few.

A grim reminder of the dangers of combat sports.
