Oezdemir Hospitalized With Staph Infection In Wake Of UFC 220

How’s this for a shitty week?

Light heavyweight contender Volkan Oezdemir lost to Daniel Cormier by way of technical knockout at UFC 220, broke his orbital bone in the process, then had to go to the hospital to get Staph infection cut from his body.

Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation gave zero fucks.

“I trained before the fights and I guess the mats were dirty,” Oezdemir told The MMA Hour. “I don’t know how many times they cleaned it, so, yeah, I got a staph infection from the fights in three different parts of my body, and that’s not fun, yeah.”

Oezdemir, 28, spent the last several weeks recovering.

Despite his medical misfortunes, “No Time” (15-2) has already been booked to throw hands opposite former light heavyweight champion Maurico Rua in the upcoming UFC Fight Night 129 co-main event this May in Santiago, Chile.

Let’s hope the warm-up mats are cleaner there than they were in Boston.
