Ticket Refunds Available For Canelo-GGG Rematch

While the bout has yet to be officially canceled, it’s definitely not a good sign that MGM Grand is already offering full ticket refunds for the Gennady Golovkin vs. Saul Alvarez boxing rematch after “Canelo” failed a pre-fight drug test for clenbuterol (details).

“In the event a fan requested a refund, they could get one at the original point of sale and in full,” a casino rep told Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Alvarez is expected to appear in front of Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) on April 10 in an attempt to explain his results. Whether or not he’s convincing enough to preserve the May 5 showdown in Las Vegas remains to be seen, but the tainted meat defense is likely to make an appearance.

Until then, he remains temporarily suspended.

Not surprisingly, Golovkin is unconvinced that his opponent was playing by the rules and called out the “terrorists” at Golden Boy Promotions and NSAC. And here you thought mixed martial arts (MMA) was the only combat sport with these sorts of setbacks.
