Former WEC title challenger Hiromitsu Miura has died at 43.
Today (Tues., Nov. 5, 2024), Miura’s family announced on social media that the Japanese passed away suddenly on Oct. 26 after battling acute leukemia for the past few months.
“Hiromitsu Miura passed away suddenly on October 26, 2024 at the age of 43 after fighting acute leukemia since mid-September.
We should have informed you of his death earlier, but we sincerely apologize for the delay in notifying you.
The funeral was attended only by his immediate family.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the kindness you extended to the deceased during his lifetime.
Sincerely, Miura Family.”
Miura, 43, competed 21 times in mixed martial arts (MMA), including five times in World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC). His most infamous fight was against former Ultimate Fighting Championship legend Carlos Condit for the WEC Welterweight title at WEC 35 in Aug. 2008. Miura vs. Condit ended up being one the best fights in the history of the promotion, with Condit scoring a fourth-round TKO.
In 2009, after a two-fight losing streak in MMA, Miura transitioned to boxing and had a great career going 9-1, only losing to Yuzo Kiyota for the OPBF Super Middleweight Title.
Miura returned to MMA after boxing, competing exclusively in Pancrase. He finished his MMA career 5-2, improving his overall record to 13-8.
